Aperitif at the Firn Village 2 km from the main NEEM camp Saturday before dinner.

Our Saturday night celebrations started with snacks and good red vine at the Firn Village 2 km from the main NEEM camp. As a supplement we also got a sniff of air from before the industrial time pumped up from a depth of 74 m in the ice sheet. Dinner was prepared by the village dwellers with a little help from others from camp. Our Italian cook Mauro directed the production of pizza’s a la NEEM for the whole camp. Fantastic!

What we have done today:

  1. Drilling with the NEEM long drill: 12.83 m. Drillers depth: 1341.90 m.
  2. Logging 10.95 m of core. Logging depth: 1356.25 m.
  3. CFA analysis: 17.05 m. Depth: 538.45 m.
  4. Processing 16.5 m. Processing depth: 1329.35 m (bag 2417).
  5. Shallow drilling at the air-firn village.
  6. Shallow drilling at the second site, NEEM2009S1.
  7. Preparing Saturday night.
  8. Repairing the floor in the carpenter’s garage. The warm weather has melted the floor and new snow has been put on the floor.
  9. Installing taps with cold and warm water in the bathroom.
  10. Regulated the heat to the snow melter to allow for 36 showers this Saturday.

Weather: Sunny all day with temperatures from -15°C to -5°C, Very low wind (3-5 kn) from S.
